It is very easy to embed rich content from external sources into your WordPress site.
WordPress
WordPress has built-in support for the oEmbed protocol used by many popular sources (YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, Flickr, Twitter, etc). To embed content from one of these sources (view the full list here), simply copy and paste the URL into the content editor – just make sure it’s on its own line and not hyperlinked:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2rvQAAKqzmU
The above will be automatically converted to an embedded format, yielding the below:
Embedly
If you want to embed from a source that either doesn’t provide an oEmbed protocol or isn’t (yet) supported by WordPress, you can use a third-party service like Embedly.
- Simply visit the Embedly website (http://embed.ly/)
- Copy and paste the URL of the content you wish to embed
- Click on the “Embed” button to generate a preview and the embed code
- Click on the “Click to Copy Embed Code” button
- Paste into the WordPress editor
Note: when pasting any type of code, you must switch the editor to “Text” mode first by clicking the tab at the top-right of the editor – you can switch back to “Visual” to continue editing your post.
